Memorial Day Events Metropolitan Houston Area

PEARLAND




Grilling experts from across Brazoria County will gather once again for the Pearland VFW Memorial Day Cook-off Saturday (May 28).
A BBQ cook-off contest is scheduled and prizes will be awarded in several different categories, organizers said. The event is open to the public and BBQ plates will be available after judging is complete.
On Monday (May 30) a Memorial Day Service will be held to honor fallen Armed Service Men and Women at the Pearland VFW. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
Members of the community are encouraged to attend and show support for veterans and those who serve in active military service at home and abroad every day.
The Pearland VFW is located at 4202 W. Walnut.




HOUSTON




A special Memorial Day service will be at 9:30 a.m. May 30 at the Houston Veterans Affairs National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive.




Retired Air Force Col. Ann M. Testa, current federal security director at Bush Intercontinental Airport, will give the address.




The event also will feature a parade of colors and wreaths by local veterans’ organizations, ROTC units, Boy and Girl Scout troops, a flyover by the U.S. Coast Guard, a performance of Taps, a cannon salute, a riderless horse procession, a rifle salute and a solo performance by Ian Martin.




GALVESTON




The Bernado de Galvez Chapter No. 1 of the Texas Society of the Sons of the American Revolution will present a Memorial Day program at 10 a.m. May 30 at Moody Gardens, 1 Hope Blvd.




The program will honor the Galveston County Fallen Warriors at the Vietnam Memorial Garden.




Free parking will be available.

LEAGUE CITY —




The city of League City is partnering with American Legion Post No. 544 to honor men and women who sacrificed their lives for our country during a special Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m. May 30 at Fairview Cemetery, 901 N. Kansas.




The ceremony will feature a roll call of area soldiers who died while in military service this year.

LA MARQUE —




Trinity Lutheran Church will have a special song service in honor of Memorial Day at 10 a.m. May 29 at 2024 12th Ave.




The youth choir will sing and patriotic hymns and songs will be a part of the service.




Hot dog’s with all the trimmings will be afterward.

TEXAS CITY —




 Vietnam veterans will have its annual Watch Fire ceremony at 7 p.m. May 29 on the
Texas City Dike at the Vietnam Veterans Park.




Watch Fire represents the light for which veterans still missing in action can help find their way home. It’s veterans’ way of never forgetting those who have died or remain missing in action.




All veterans of all wars and their friends and families are invited.




The group will set up May 27 and be on location the entire Memorial Day weekend.

DICKINSON —




There will be a Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m. May 30 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6378, 5204 state Highway 3.




Refreshments will be provided afterward.

LA MARQUE —




Abundant Life Christian Center is inviting the public to its Memorial Field from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Saturday and Monday at the field of white crosses on the feeder road on Interstate 45 at the Delany Road exit by the outlet mall.




The church also will have a memorial service at 10 a.m. Sunday at 601 Delany Road.
